I used to run a World’s Strongest Man blog over at http://the5thstone.wordpress.com/ but I used to get the results spoiled every year so I have decided this year to do a running commentary on tumblr. It could well be that nobody reads it but I like writing about Strongman competitions anyway!
The qualifiers and finals start tonight on Channel 5 in the UK and in preperation Challenge have been showing UK’s Strongest Man. While never up to the level of World’s Strongest Man it’s always a fun watch and this year saw Ed Hall win. This guy looks like a Strongman and acts like one, and was a very deserving winner.
You can tell the huge difference between UK and World Strongest Man as Hall became only the 9th man ever to complete the Atlas Stones in the history of the UK competition. At WSM it’s a case of who does it the quickest, not if they complete it.
I hope I get to see a few of my favourites tonight, those being Derek Poundstone, Brian Shaw, Travis Ortmayer and Terry Hollands. I’m also wondering of Zydrunas Savickas will make it 3 in a row this year? I love WSM - Christmas wouldn’t be the same without it.
